Our Riverview Implant Supported Dentures

IMPLANT SUPPORTED DENTURES

Are all of your teeth missing? Do you already wear dentures or want an alternative option to wear? If you currently have denture, you know how difficult it can sometimes be to keep them in place — especially if you have significant bone loss—and may want a more comfortable, secure alternative. Snap-in dentures, also called “overdentures” in Riverview, FL are an excellent choice.

Traditional dentures can sometimes make it difficult to swallow, speak, and weaken your ability to chew and bite into some foods. As bone loss occurs and changes happen the shape of your jaws, dentures may become loose or cause sore spots. Fortunately, our Riverview denture patients can elect to wear a “snap-in” version that sets securely in place throughout the day.

What Are Snap-On Dentures?

Snap-on or clip-in dentures look almost identical to conventional dentures. However, these overdentures never require sticky adhesives or pastes to keep them in place. These prosthetics do not rest on your gums, creating suction like conventional dentures. Instead, overdentures snap onto two to four dental implants during the day.

Snap-on dentures can be removed at night and they are very secure during the day. They won't slip, rub, or slide while you wear them. Knowing that they are secure will make you feel confident as you go about your normal activities.

How Do Snap-On Dentures Work?

Sometimes called "overdentures" and "implant-stabilized dental dentures", special locators will be found on the underside of a snap-on denture. Each locator corresponds to a strategically placed dental implant in your mouth. Depending on the complexity of your case, the extent of bone loss there is, and the stability you need, our Riverview dentist will usually recommend two to four implants or more.

Once each implant has been fully integrated with your bone, we attach special attachments to the top of each one. These attachments "snap" and "clip" into the removable denture.

Advantages of Snap-On Dentures

Snap-on dentures are easy to clean and maintain. Just like traditional dentures, all you need to do is remove them at night, clean them as directed by our Riverview dentist, and practice good oral hygiene. The next morning you’ll clean and rinse them, then snap them back into your mouth.

Snap-on dentures provide extra stability throughout the day. If you have difficulty with a denture that's always rocking or coming loose, adding implants underneath to create snap-on dentures will prevent this issue from happening.

You’ll find that the added stability you get from the dental implants makes it easier to talk and eat foods that might otherwise be off limits for denture wearers. They're an upgrade from traditional dentures and a good option for those who may not need or want permanent implant dentures.

When dental implants are placed, we also see that that bone loss is reduced. Since implants spur healthy bone integration, the natural resorption (shrinking) that happens with tooth loss is delayed. This aspect of snap-on dentures makes them "healthier" for our edentulous patients — they don't trigger more bone loss by applying pressure to your gums.

Caring For Snap-On Dentures

Removable prosthetics such as snap-on dentures, shouldn’t be worn to sleep. To prevent infection, bone loss, bad breath, and similar oral issues, your snap-on appliance must be taken out every night.

When you clean your denture, use a soft toothbrush, lukewarm water, and antibacterial soap. Then soak your prosthesis in a denture cleanser for the night. The next morning, brush and rinse it off before you put it back into your mouth.

We also recommend that you clean your gums at least twice daily with a soft toothbrush or washcloth. This will help prevent bad breath and infections such as thrush. When possible, take a break after meals to rinse your mouth and denture with water.

Are Snap-On Dentures Expensive?

The cost of your snap-on dentures is affected by many factors. For instance, if you have a complex case, the extra work will impact the total price of your care. They do cost more than traditional dentures, but snap-on dentures are more affordable than permanent implant denture designs.
